Live performance, 20mins
Video, 6:26mins
A mundane action is repeated for a designated period of time. The act, in its rhythmic repetition, becomes voided of practical significance, of sexual significance – it becomes pointless. The sequence calls into question societal associations, projections, and expectations connected with the body of the artist, as well as demonstrates both successful and failed attempts to structure time and prescribed movement.
The resulting video uses performance footage material, yet rather than accurately documenting the live performance, the action is distorted in a manner that emphasizes a component of the original concept: the sense of being trapped in repetitive circular time. The resulting video is thus a new work of its own, layering the performance subject.
