The brazilian samba costume is mimicked using objects to imitate the costume itself, as well as the beauty ideal placed upon the dancer in the costume. the dancer’s butt, and how she moves it, is the main attraction of the samba dancer, and thus the ideal size and shape of the dancer’s bottom is exaggerated in this piece. the costume is imitated with tape, foam, and blocks of wood. the ornate headpiece of the original costume is made of large colorful ostrich feathers, yet here it is reduced to an arrangement of pigeon feathers – it is thus dirty and deglamorized.
